New Soundboard

The soundboard is very thin and particularly sensitive to poor storage conditions. Over many years of use, it can crack or separate. A damaged soundboard negatively affects the tone, making it unclear and adding unwanted noise and buzzing. Restoring a soundboard is one of the most difficult and time-consuming stages of piano restoration. In many cases, building a new soundboard is more effective than repairing the old one.
Our company offers both options – either making a new soundboard or restoring the old one. The choice depends on a detailed analysis of the customer’s documentation and our inspection of the instrument.

How We Make a New Soundboard

We create new soundboards from high-quality, carefully selected spruce wood. The material is sourced from renowned soundboard producers such as Strunz and Ciresa. All work related to cutting the soundboard and fitting the ribs is done entirely by hand.
The prepared soundboard is then pressed and shaped using specialized equipment to give it the correct form. Once this process is complete, we install the bass and treble bridges, along with special bridge caps, pins, and decorative inlays.
Finally, the soundboard is finished with a clear lacquer, either matte or glossy, according to the customer’s preference. The last step is fitting the piano’s cast-iron frame to the new soundboard.
