Soundboard

Having a direct influence on acoustic properties and tone of the instrument, the soundboard is considered as the heart of every piano.
Based on condition of the existing soundboard or customer’s preferences, the soundboard may be either carefully restored or replace. SAP Renovation is able to supply soundboards of leading manufacturers from Germany and Italy.

Soundboard restoration

A complex process of drying and shimming recovers original sound properties of the wood while varnishing and application of new decal supplement cosmetic aspect of the soundboard.

Soundboard replacement

When condition of original soundboard is heavily compromised and does not apply for restoration, replacing it with new top quality soundboard of German Strunz or Italian Ciresa is possible.

Soundboard bridges

Piano bridges are responsible for transferring sound from the strings to the soundboard, and their condition is crucial for maintaining tonal integrity. Depending on their condition, bridge caps may be restored or replaced. New caps are always installed and chiseled by hand to match the original shape.

Bridge restoration

If the structural integrity is preserved, bridge caps can undergo cosmetic restoration and minor improvements.

New bridge caps

If the condition of the bridge caps no longer meets technical requirements, new caps are installed and carefully chiseled by hand to replicate the original shape.

Pin block

The main function of the pinblock is to maintain tuning stability; therefore, its condition is crucial when assessing a piano before restoration.

Keeping the original pinblock

If the pinblock’s condition allows for the use of slightly wider tuning pins, our technicians will only refine the plank’s cosmetic appearance.

Pinblock replacement

If the pinblock’s condition disqualifies it from further use, we can provide one of three types of brand-new pinblocks.

Iron frame

While the soundboard is considered the heart of every piano, the frame serves as its skeleton. The cast iron in the piano must withstand string tension of up to 30 tons; therefore, it is essential to maintain the frame’s structural integrity. Additionally, finely sanded iron finished with high-quality lacquer enhances the piano’s beauty even further.

Basic frame restoration

Basic frame restoration focuses on restoring its appearance through painting and ensuring full functionality by replacing hitch pins.

Non-standard iron frame restoration

Any cracks in the frame significantly compromise safety and performance and must be repaired immediately. Our technicians accomplish this through a precise and complex welding process.

Strings

High-quality strings and their professional installation have a direct impact on the richness and strength of sound. SAP Renovation uses only strings from renowned German and French manufacturers.

Keeping original bass strings

Relatively new and well-maintained bass strings that are not affected by corrosion or aging can be successfully reused during the restringing process.

Replacing bass and steel strings

Any signs of rust or wear on your strings can negatively affect sound quality. In such cases, they should be replaced with a brand-new set of bass and steel strings.
