The foundations of tone – from Italian lacquers to Kluge keyboards

The Skowronek’s depth of tone and clarity of sound come from carefully selected materials supplied by some of Europe’s most respected manufacturers. The Kluge keyboard gives performers precise control over note repetition, a quality you will appreciate even in the most demanding passages. The hand-fitted action with Renner hammers allows the strings to respond instantly to the nuances of the pianist’s touch. The Italian lacquer finish lends the case an elegant lustre while protecting the wood from fluctuations in ambient conditions. How will this Polish grand piano surprise the world’s leading pianists?

The new Polish grand piano surprises performers with the exceptional singing quality of its middle register and a powerful, crystal-clear bass free from unwanted booming. At SAP Renovation, master craftsmanship goes hand in hand with a passion for perfection. Every day, our skilled specialists bring together expertise in fine woodworking, precision mechanics and acoustics. This has earned our Kalisz workshop a reputation as a trusted partner to pianists around the world. In our workshops, there is no place for haste or superficial work: the lasting quality and beauty of the finished instrument are what matter. The trust we have earned over the years is reflected in every detail of the meticulously crafted Alaudis grand piano.

Our journey – from restoring historic pianos to building our own instrument

The move from restoring the most demanding historic grand pianos to building a design of our own was a natural progression, made possible by many years of developing specialist expertise. Thousands of legendary instruments by makers such as Steinway, Bösendorfer and C. Bechstein have passed through our hands. Each historic piano, carefully dismantled, revealed to our technicians the secrets of past master piano makers. We decided to transform this accumulated knowledge into an entirely new project, bringing a fresh voice to European musical culture. Read more about the history, challenges and future of the Alaudis project.

Why are quality and patience the keys to an exceptional sound?

Creating a refined sound takes time, many months of seasoning the raw materials and extraordinary patience on the part of skilled piano tuners and voicing specialists. The tonewood must be stored under strictly controlled conditions to reach the optimum moisture content and withstand internal stresses. Rushing any stage of the process would undermine the care invested in constructing the instrument’s complex resonating body. Every string, agraffe and felt hammer undergoes rigorous manual testing before being fitted to the instrument. Only this uncompromising discipline in the workshop can produce a sound of such refinement, warmth and artistic depth.

By joining us for this event, you will become part of the living history of Polish craftsmanship as it proudly returns to the ranks of the world’s foremost instrument makers. Hearing the first notes of the Alaudis Skowronek together will be a joyful celebration of music, fidelity to tradition and human passion. We warmly invite you to Kalisz for an encounter with outstanding artists and a sound that will stir your senses. Please remember to reserve your place in advance to join fellow lovers of exquisite sound. We look forward to seeing you on 29 October in the university auditorium in Kalisz!
