ACOUSTIC PART

SOUNDBOARD

How did we regain proper crown of the soundboard?

  • We’ve lowered the moisture level of the soundboard by slow drying process
  • We’ve eliminated all open splits by shimming them with spruce wedges throughout the thickness of the board
  • We’ve checked if ribs are properly attached and re-glued them where necessary

What makes the soundboard of this piano stand out from others and shine?

  • We’ve bleached the soundboard equally by spreading bleaching agent along the grain
  • We’ve applied highest quality Italian lacquer paying attention to proper thickness of coatings and seasoning time
  • We’ve carefully recreated manufacturer’s logo using ink and traditional screen printer
BRIDGES AND STRINGS: BASS AND TREBLE

How did we achieve highest quality of resonance transmission from strings to soundboard?

  • We’ve handmade new treble and bass bridge caps during the four stage shaping process of beech wood

How did we achieve such homogenous sound?

  • We’ve installed new strings of renowned manufacturers: bass from Heller and wire from Röslau – carefully calibrated and manufactured based on detailed measurements
PIN BLOCK AND TUNING PINS:

What makes tuning at 442 HZ so stable, effortless, and precise?

  • We’ve installed a cross-glued, high quality multilayered pin block made of beech ply
  • The block assembly has been covered with special material allowing unified tuning pin momentum during tuning
  • We’ve put special effort to perfectly position the pin block against the side of the rim making sure we maintain proper spacing between the block and key bed
  • New stainless steel tuning pins have been installed. Their perfectly smooth surface and appropriately tight pin block positioning results in effortless and precise tuning
CAST IRON FRAME:

What makes any frame as good as new and eliminates past imperfections at the same time?

The frame has gone through mechanical cleaning process using sand grains and compressed air called sandblasting.

Apart from removing old lacquer coating, sandblasting also cleans frame from and major dirt and stains. Such prepared surface is covered with highest quality Italian lacquer prepared specifically to match brand and model of the restored piano. What is more, both base and final coatings have been carefully monitored on the basis of their quantity of layers, thickness, and seasoning time.

ACTION

DAMPERS:

What makes sustaining or damping the sound so effective and quick?

We’ve replaced damper felts completely. The type and origin of the felt has been determined by our experts in cooperation with ABEL which is a leading supplier of grand and upright piano parts. After that, dampers have been precisely set up, regulated and, as a result, we’ve achieved instant damp of the vibrating string without putting unnecessary weight to the key.

ACTION AND KEYBOARD

How did we managed to achieve proper action weight and responsiveness?

After thorough analysis of action components, the following steps were undertaken:

  • Thorough cleaning of wooden and metal components
  • Replacement of all felts, leathers, and cashmeres
  • Replacement of white key covers with a set of new acrylic

It is crucial to maintain original action parameters and make sure they won’t change when action components are replaced. In order to achieve that, we selected and installed parts delivered only by renown suppliers.
After restoration was completed keyboard and action have been fine regulated resulting proper sensitivity, dynamic range, equally leveled keys, and correct touch.

HAMMERS AND SHANKS

How did we shape colorful and clear sound?

  • We’ve installed brand new hammer head delivered by Abel that are characterized by being highly customizable and easy to work with
  • The hammers have been carefully selected based on their size, weight, and load
  • Natural felt of the hammers we’ve selected offers the highest harmonic and dynamic range possible even with the smallest voicing involvement
  • New hammers are accompanied by brand new hammer shanks also delivered by Abel which secure flawless work and perfect momentum transition. Material the shanks are made of features very high durability and resistance to torque
