Long-term usage of a grand and upright piano may result in smaller or bigger cracks in bridge caps, thus, pins become more or less loose and the sound of the instrument becomes short, buzzing, and unclear which usually goes hand in hand with tuning problems.

The process of replacing bridge caps.

Bridge caps replacement involves cutting off the old caps and attaching new ones in their place.

The process begins with a precise reproduction of the existing pin pattern. After that, the bridge caps are cut off and all imperfections are manually improved. The last step of preparing bridges is filling up old pin holes.

New bridge caps are made of well-seasoned hard rock Beech or Maple that has proper humidity level. New bridge caps are carefully prepared in terms of their shape and grain. Afterwards, they are glued to the bridges with a specially selected glue. After making sure the bonding has perfectly joined caps with bridges, we begin a complex process of working with the material in order to create optimal acoustic conditions along with the frame and pin block which has a direct impact on bridge pressure.

Another part of the process is cutting bridge caps to a proper height, drilling pin sockets at a correct angle, chiseling and, on customer’s request, covering brand new caps with graphite. The final step of the procedure is placing pins inside pin sockets.
