Find out what are the benefits of acoustic restoration

Grand or upright piano acoustic part serves as the musical heart and its health translates to the strength, quality, and clarity of the sound the piano produces. Therefore, in order to maintain outstanding sound properties, it is essential to keep all acoustic components in perfect shape.

The following elements should be taken into account while considering acoustic restoration:

The soundboard – damaged soundboard results in flat and repressed sound which weakens with every split in the board. Properly restored soundboard allows to eliminate all present cracks and get rid of unnecessary humidity, thanks to which our board will regain its flexibility and crown necessary to produce beautiful and resonant sound. Additionally, new manufacturer decal applied by hand and varnishing the soundboard with best Italian lacquers will definitely add to its freshness and glitter.
In some cases, the overall level of damage does not allow to effectively restore the soundboard and replacing it with new one is necessary to save the instrument.

Treble and bass bridge caps – splits, wood damage, and loose bridge pins negatively influence stringing stability which may result in unwanted buzzing and string tension loses. Recapping the bridges will improve string bearing level and keep them in order while securing great sound properties and hassle-free tuning.

The pin block
– multiple tuning and age affect pin block condition. Over the years, pin sockets increase in size and shorten the time between tunings up to the point where keeping the piano it tune becomes impossible even when using the biggest available pins. Also, any damage or wood splits around pin sockets disqualify the plank from further use.  New pin block will extend piano’s life by many years and allow very stable tuning which will last longer.

Bass and steel strings
– Strings are the source of sound and their condition reflects on the quality and strength of sound. Age of the piano, too high or too low room temperature, or inappropriate air humidity may result in rusting and breaking strings. New set of strings delivered by best German manufacturers is a great source of clear sound rising from our instrument.

Cast iron frame –  it is crucial to take care of the frame in your instrument as it serves as a skeleton resisting the enormous pressure created by strings. Any cracks in the plate are dangerous and have to be dealt with immediately. Second function of the frame is purely cosmetic. Similar to the soundboard, grand piano frame is visible and it is worth to take care of it looks. Fine sanded iron varnished in highest quality lacquers will highlight piano’s beauty even more.

Hitch pins
– used to attach strings to the frame and may bend or get damaged over the years. Replacing hitch pins during iron frame painting guarantee security of new strings.

Agraffes – grand piano agraffes are responsible for symmetric positioning of strings which allows the hammer to strike all strings included in a single choir. Worn but solid agraffes may be restored but often, due to the degree of damage, they have to be replaced.

Frame screws – corroded or damaged screws have to be nickel plated or replaced based on their condition.
